I was recently reading through news articles to see what was going on in the world during quarantine. One particular article caught my eye. It's from The Guardian.
I thought this was interesting. As mentioned in one of my previous blogs, Donald Trump doesn't really "like" COVID-19. He called it the Chinese virus, and I'm pretty sure he even thought it was a hoax. In this case, he refused to wear a face mask when visiting a Ford plant in Ypsilanti, Michigan. All the other Ford executives were wearing masks, but he wasn't. When asked why he didn't, he said that he didn't want the reporters to have something against him. I think he wanted his public image to be against COVID-19 and the stay at home policies. He thought that wearing that mask would mean he would abide to the stay at home policies and the social distancing policies.
The second thing I want to talk about is a newspaper called Epoch Times.
This is the media extension of the Falun Gong religious movement. I'm not quite sure what that is, but I don't like the Epoch Times. I was first made aware that this brand of newspaper even existed through their countless ads on Youtube. They always have the same individual (as seen on the left) talking about the Epoch Times. The things they cover are very controversial and could even not be true. I remember one of their topics was that they believed the CCP (Chinese Communist Party) had created COVID-19 as a biologic weapon. They also then said that it may have been created by the CCP in a lab and was unexpectedly released. Of course COVID-19 isn't a biological weapon. I don't think I need to explain why it isn't one.
They make many controversial news and then they play victim. In some of the other ads I stumbled upon, they show footage of people burning down paper. I distinctly remember that one headline read (along the lines of) Extremists burn down our Hong Kong Branch. I really don't respect this newspaper. This doesn't mean I have anything against the religious movement, because, again, I don't know enough for it.
That's it for today. Thanks for reading!
